David de Gea insists he is happy at Manchester United handing a major blow to suitors Real Madrid.

De Gea has just 14 months remaining on his Manchester United contract and Real Madrid are known to be sniffing around the Spaniard.

Real failed in a deadline day push to sign De Gea in 2015 but have never given up hope of one day signing the shot-stopper.

Yet Manchester United will be confident of their No 1 pledging his future to the club after he latest comments.

Speaking to the Daily Star Sunday, De Gea made it clear he has no plans to leave United in the near future.

“Time flies by so quickly. I’ve been here seven years and I am happy,” said the former Atletico Madrid star.

“A lot has happened to me – some very good, some not so good, – but to be honest I am just really happy.

“I feel like an important player in the dressing room. I am one of the oldest in the team.

“It makes me happy to see the younger players coming through – and trying to make United big.”

De Gea joined United from Atletico in 2011 and is one of the last remaining players on the Red Devils’ books from the Sir Alex Ferguson era.

Real Madrid are said to be eyeing a big-money swoop for the 27-year-old, although Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois, Kepa Arrizabalaga of Bilbao and Milan’s Gianluigi Donnarumma are also on their wish list.

Asked about his future, De Gea told the Daily Star Sunday: “I don’t think it’s ever good to discuss the future or what may happen.

“Only the present, feeling well, playing well and helping United is important.”
