The Daily Star are reporting Arsenal are in advanced talk in signing Bernd Leno from Bayern Leverkusen with the deal expected to be announced very soon.

Arsenal are also expected to announce the signing of Borussia Dortmund central defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos on July 1, according to Sky Sports reporter Sheth Dharmesh.

Sheth who has issued an update on the Gunners transfer business on the Transfer Talk podcast.

He explained: “We understand they have agreed a deal with Borussia Dortmund for the defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos.

“That transfer is expected to be formally announced on July 1 – that seems to be all done according to our information.

“That makes sense because Sven Mislintat is on the recruitment team at Arsenal and was of course director of football and chief scout at Dortmund for the last 10 years.

“Why July 1? It’s the start of the new tax quarter in Germany.”

He also revealed the Gunners are closing in on a deal for German goal stopper Leno.

He said: “They are in advanced talks we are told with the Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno.

“He was in the provisional German squad for the World Cup – four goalkeepers, he was the one to miss out.”
