Jack Wilshere is set to extend his stay at Arsenal by signing a new three-year contract worth £100k a week with the club, according to The Standard.
The 26-year-old whose current deal expires in June had been expected to leave the club at the end of his contract after rejecting two previous contract offers from the club.
The offers includes a cut in his wage and appearance based incentives, as the club are apparently not convinced he had truly overcome his fitness woes.
But after making 38 appearances for the club this season –The most he has made for the club since 2010/2011 season– he seems to have convinced them to improve his terms.
One person he did not convince however is his national team manager Gareth Southgate, as he was not included in England’s World Cup squad, despite his form and fitness, which would come as a huge disappointment to him.
The new contract remains incentive based, but it is reported that he will now have to play fewer games to trigger the bonuses than the previous contracts.
The club seems to be eager to tie him down as they are in a tight position at the moment with Santi Cazorla leaving and Aaron Ramsey stalling on renewing his contract which expires next summer, a situation that might force the club to Wales international.
They now need to get Wilshere to renew amid interests from Wolves, Everton, AC Milan and Juventus.
