Arsenal have finally completed the signing of Ivorian forward Nicolas Pepe from Lille.
The 24-year-old Ivory Coast international has joined the North London club for an undisclosed fee that is believed to be around £72million, which is expected to be paid in instalments.
Pepe’s move eclipses the £55million spent on Gabon international forward, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in January 2018 as the Gunners add another impressive attacker to their squad.
The Gunners confirmed that the paperwork for the move, which is subject to the completion of regulatory processes had been finalised on Thursday, and Ivorian forward would wear the No.19 shirt. The length of the deal was not announced but is believed to be until the 2024 year.
Unai Emery said: “Nicolas is a highly-rated and talented winger who was wanted by many of the top teams in Europe.
“Signing a top-class winger has been one of our key objectives in this transfer window and I’m delighted he’s joining.
“He will add pace, power and creativity, with the aim of bringing more goals to our team.”
Pepe has managed to found back of the net 22 times in the Ligue 1 last season and was rumoured with a host of teams across Europe, however, he has decided to make the switch to the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners emerged late last week as the somewhat surprising favourites and have now sealed the deal for the African forward.
Pepe said in an interview with Arsenal Media: “Being here is very emotional because it has not been easy for me.
“I have come a long way and struggled a lot and so signing for this great club is a big reward.”
