Cork City have confirmed that they have managed to extend Joseph Olowu’s loan contract from his parent club Arsenal, until the end of the season.

Originally the defender joined the Leesiders in February on a deal which should have seen him head back to London at the end of June, but having managed only a small number of weeks in Ireland before the Covid-19 pandemic put a halt to all footballing activity, it has now been agreed that he shall remain with the club until the end of the current season.

City boss Neale Fenn is keen to see his young star back on the pitch having only managed a handful of games before the lockdown arrived.

“Joseph came in quite late, but he was one of our better performers in the opening games of the season. We were pleased with how he was doing and felt he was progressing well but, as everyone knows, everything then ground to a halt. We’ve had a number of conversations with Arsenal during the shut-down, and they were very pleased with how he had been doing here, so they were happy for him to stay and try to continue the progress he had made in those first few games.”

The Central defender has now arrived back into the country and is looking forward to being able to link up with his teammates once again.

“I was enjoying my time at the club when the season was suspended. Everyone made me feel very welcome at the club, and I felt I was settling in well. It has been a frustrating few months, but I am very pleased that this is all sorted and I can focus on getting back on the pitch with the club for the rest of the season.”
