The Newcastle Chronicle claim Chelsea and Tottenham are monitoring Jamaal Lascelles and that the Magpies “could struggle to keep him” at St James’ Park in January.
Chelsea appear to have missed out on the chance to sign Newcastle defender Jamaal Lascelles in January with the news that the player has committed his future to the club.
The Shields Gazette report that the player has signed a new six-year deal at St James Park, ending any speculation about his future.
The new deal will see the player earn a reported £70,000 a week at the club.
The 24-year-old has been an integral part of Newcastle’s team since moving from Nottingham Forrest four years ago, becoming the club captain and a leading figure in the dressing room.
Lascelles has made it clear that he has committed his future and loyalty to the club despite their poor start to the season, and has been a big supporter of Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez.
The Magpies recently tied down the defender to a new long term contract which will keep him at St. James Park until 2024.
