Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has convinced Ander Herrera to sign a new contract at Manchester United, according to reports.
Spanish midfielder Herrera has made over 150 appearances for the Red Devils since signing from Athletic Bilbao in 2014.
His current contract will expire at the end of the season, however, and he is now free to discuss a move with foreign clubs.
Atletic Bilbao have confirmed their interest in re-signing Herrera but the 29-year-old is now ready to put pen to paper on a new deal at Old Trafford, according to The Sun.
It is claimed Herrera is ready to commit his long-term future to United after Solskjaer convinced him he had a future at the Theatre of Dreams.
Herrera has featured in all four of Manchester United’s Premier League fixtures since Jose Mourinho’s sacking, with Solskjaer viewing him as a useful addition to the squad.
On Tuesday, Bilbao sporting director Rafa Alkorta confirmed the La Liga club were interested in striking a deal with United for Herrera.
‘We are interested in Javi Martinez, Ibai [Gomez], Ander Herrera, Llorente,’ he told Cadena Ser.
‘It’s obvious that any player that can play for Athletic is of interest to us.
‘Nothing is easy but we are interested in having all of the ones that can come. We have not made any moves yet. We will start on Tuesday and we will see what can be done.’
