.@Arsenal pay Thomas Partey’s buyout clause at LaLiga headquarters. The player has unilaterally terminated his contract with our club.

Diego Simeone will not be at all happy about losing Thomas Partey to Arsenal.
Unfortunately for him there was nothing he could do about it because the way these release clauses work in Spain, if a club or player want to pay out their buyout clause then the club that owns the player really can’t do anything about it.
Arsenal and Atletico Madrid have also been doing a dance over the last few months.
Arsenal were told that they would not negotiate, that they would have to meet the buyout clause. That’s exactly what happened today.
You have to go to La Liga headquarters directly and lay a deposit and that way you can de-register the player.
Atletico is not involved in the process whatsoever, they will have just got a notice that Arsenal have activated this clause and they would be taking the player with them to the Premier League.
