Arsene Wenger has ruled out making a move for Riyad Mahrez in the January transfer window.
Last week, reports claimed Arsenal are still keeping tabs on Mahrez ahead of a possible January swoop but Wenger has now responded to those speculations. When asked about the probability of making a move for Mahrez in January, Wenger said, “No.”
That rules out a move for Mahrez automatically.
The boss also ruled out a January move for Thomas Lemar who Wenger chose over Mahrez in the summer transfer window.
“No. At the moment, I have a big squad,” he said .
“The problem for me is to keep everyone together until the end of the season.
“Do we go on the transfer market in January? I don’t know yet.”
Wenger’s comments mean we’ll be keeping Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil until the end of the season even though they could leave for free. Both players are refusing to sign contract extensions and it’s been rumored that we could move for their replacements in January but Wenger’s decision to keep the current squad until next summer mean they could leave for free, inturn blocking any potential arrival.
