Tottenham stormed into the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Wednesday night and have got a surprise supporter in their quest for European glory – Arsenal legend David Seaman.

Spurs hammered Borussia Dortmund 4-0 on aggregate to stroll into the last eight and now they are just waiting to hear their fate in next Friday’s draw.

It was an impressive display from Mauricio Pochettino’s men as they saw off the Bundesliga leaders and they are now enjoying backing from unlikely sources.

Seaman might have played over 560 games for Tottenham’s fiercest rivals, Arsenal, but that does not stop him supporting the north Londoners.

TalkSPORT presenter Max Rushden suggested to the former goalkeeper that it would be brilliant to see Spurs win the Champions League.

Seaman replied: ‘I know, that’d be ace, wouldn’t it!

‘No seriously, I swear, I would want them to win. If they were in a final against a foreign team I would want Tottenham to beat them, no doubt about that.

‘Say Tottenham were playing Bayern Munich, Barcelona, whoever – I would want the English team to win.

‘I played 75 times for my country, I’d want the English team to win. That’s just the way I am.’

Spurs joined Ajax as the first two teams to make it into the quarter-finals of this season’s competition as the Dutch side beat Real Madrid 5-3 on aggregate.

Seaman also admitted supporting the Red Devils when they took on Bayern Munich in the 1999 Champions League final. ‘Of course I did, there’s no question about it,’ said the 55-year-old as he stuck to his guns.
