First January deal? Raul Sanllehi begin early talk over signing of 22-year-old attacker

Cristian Pavon

Footballbible on Facebook and Twitter get up to date football-related news from the English Premier League, La Liga, Serie A, Bundesliga and other leagues around the World. News From Chelsea, Everton, Arsenal, Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool.

Arsenal are still in the hunt for Argentina star Cristian Pavon and have moved to open talks with Boca Juniors over a potential move, according to The Sun.

The Gunners showed an interest in luring the 22-year-old forward to north London during the summer, but he ultimately penned a new contract with Boca, increasing his buyout clause to £37.5m in the process.

Football.London claims Arsenal have shown a strong interest and it’s Raul Sanllehi leading the charge to sign him, rather than the head of recruitment Sven Mislintat. The former Barcelona director of football has reportedly ‘already been in talks’ with Boca Juniors over the transfer.

Ivan Gazidis has stepped down as Arsenal’s chief executive to join AC Milan.

That departure has subsequently seen Sanllehi and Vinai Venkatesham appointed head of football and managing director respectively.

Sanllehi, who only took up his role as head of football relations in February after joining from Barcelona, is now the most powerful UK-based figure at the club.

And it is he who is said to be the driving force behind Arsenal’s desire to land Pavon.
