15 Arsenal players were called up by their countries for senior international fixtures over the March break, let’s look at the results.

The full list of Arsenal call-ups for the March international break was as follows:

  • Goalkeepers: Karl Hein (Estonia), Runar Alex Runarsson (Iceland), Bernd Leno (Germany)
  • Defenders: Daniel Ballard (Northern Ireland), Kieran Tierney (Scotland), Cedric Soares (Portugal), Konstantinos Mavropanos (Greece), Sead Kolasinac (Bosnia & Herzegovina)
  • Midfielders: Martin Odegaard (Norway), Mohamed Elneny (Egypt), Granit Xhaka (Switzerland), Thomas Partey (Ghana)
  • Forwards: Bukayo Saka (England), Nicolas Pepe (Ivory Coast), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Gabon)

Note: Although Karl Hein did originally receive a call-up for Estonia, he missed all of their matches after a positive Covid test in their camp forced him into an isolation period. Similarly, Bukayo Saka had to pull out through injury.

Results

Wednesday 24th March

  • Finland 2-2 Bosnia & Herzegovina – Sead Kolasinac came on as a very late substitute in the 89th minute.
  • Gibraltar 0-3 Norway – Martin Odegaard played the first half for Norway and created three chances including one big chance, but he came off at half-time with a knock.

Thursday 25th March

  • Gabon 3-0 DR Congo – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang played the full 90 minutes, scored one goal, and assisted another. The win qualified Gabon for AFCON next January.
  • Bulgaria 1-3 Switzerland – Granit Xhaka played 90 minutes and completed 113 passes, with a 95% success rate.
  • Scotland 2-2 Austria – Kieran Tierney played 90 minutes and won 10 of his 12 individual duels on the left of the Scotland back three.

Friday 26th March

  • Niger 0-3 Ivory Coast – Nicolas Pepe played 86 minutes as Ivory Coast qualified for AFCON.

Saturday 27th March

  • Bosnia & Herzegovina 0-0 Costa Rica – Sead Kolasinac played 81 minutes and helped his team to a clean sheet.
  • Norway 0-3 Turkey – Martin Odegaard played 90 minutes after returning from injury. He completed 90% of his passes as one of Norway’s few positive performers.
  • Serbia 2-2 Portugal – Cedric Soares played 90 minutes and assisted Portugal’s second goal.

Sunday 28th March

  • Greece 2-1 Honduras – Konstantinos Mavropanos made his senior international debut and played 90 minutes for Greece.
  • Ghana 3-1 São Tomé and Príncipe – Thomas Partey completed 90 minutes of his only match of the international break, a comfortable win.
  • Northern Ireland 1-2 USA – Daniel Ballard played 79 minutes and performed well despite the referee giving a very controversial penalty against him.
  • Israel 1-1 Scotland – Kieran Tierney put in another impressive display and played another 90 minutes for Scotland. Playing at centre-back again, there was nothing he could do about the long-range goal they conceded, and he won 9/9 individual duels.
  • Switzerland 1-0 Lithuania – Granit Xhaka also played another 90 minutes and only completed two fewer passes than in his first game, with 111 this time.

Monday 29th March

  • Egypt 4-0 Comoros – Mohamed Elneny played 90 minutes and scored the opening goal with a curling effort from outside the box.

Tuesday 30th March

  • Montenegro 0-1 Norway – Martin Odegaard completed 81 minutes playing largely on the right. Despite his injury concerns earlier in the week, he came off early without a hint of a knock.

Wednesday 31st March

  • Liechtenstein 1-4 Iceland – Runar Alex Runarsson played the full 90 minutes and made two saves.
  • Northern Ireland 0-0 Bulgaria – Daniel Ballard played 74 minutes for Northern Ireland, somewhat out of position at right-back.
  • Scotland 4-0 Faroe Islands – Kieran Tierney provided a hat-trick of assists for Scotland and played 79 minutes.
  • Bosnia & Herzegovina 0-1 France – Sead Kolasinac played 90 minutes.
  • Switzerland 3-2 Finland – Granit Xhaka came on at half-time with Switzerland 2-1 down and captained them to victory.
