Olivier Giroud has admitted it was a huge relief to get his first goal for Chelsea in the FA Cup win over Hull City.
Chelsea thrashed Hull 4-0 to reach the FA Cup quarter-finals and further lessen the pressure on Antonio Conte’s shoulders.
The Blues have now won back-to-back games, following the 3-0 victory over West Brom on Monday night.
And new signing Olivier Giroud – who scored his first goal for the club on the night- admitted it was as much a relief for himself as it was for Conte.
“I was waiting for it [a first goal],” the former Arsenal striker said.
“I had a couple of chances in previous games. It was important for me to score my first goal.
“It’s relieved me a little bit.”
And Giroud reckons the result will see the Blues kick on, especially with a tough run of fixtures coming, starting with a Champions League clash with Barcelona.
“We can see the team had a good team cohesion. It was important to bounce back after some disappointing results,” he added.
“This confidence is very important to carry on like that. We need momentum
“Everything is going in the right way. We’re very pleased with our last two games so let’s carry on.”
And Willian echoed Giroud’s remarks, insisting the Blues are now back to their best after their last two results.
“We can see the team had a good team cohesion. It was important to bounce back after some disappointing results,” the Brazilian said.
“This confidence is very important to carry on like that. We need momentum. Everything is going in the right way.
