Dijon goalkeeper Runar Alex Runarsson has had a medical with Arsenal on Thursday, according to reports. The Gunners have agreed a £1.5 million deal with the French club and are now on the verge of completing the transfer.
Runarsson has been quickly indentified by Arsenal as the replacement for Emiliano Martinez, who completed his £20m move to Aston Villa on Wednesday.
And according to The Telegraph, the 25-year-old is now due to complete medical checks in London and will finalise his move to the Gunners.
The report also claims that Arsenal are still open to signing Brentford goalkeeper David Raya, even though Runarsson is on the verge of joining the club.
The Gunners are looking to sign Raya this summer but allow him to remain at Brentford on loan for the remainder of the season.
Runarsson, meanwhile, will arrive and immediately act as a back-up to Bernd Leno, who started in Arsenal’s 3-0 victory over Fulham on Saturday.
The Icelandic goalkeeper has already worked with Arsenal’s current goalkeeper coach, Inaki Cana, at Danish side Nordsjaelland.
Runarsson has won five caps with Iceland’s national team and was in their squad at the World Cup in 2014.
