Arsenal have been handed a massive boost in the chase of Steven Nzonzi this summer, according to the SUN.

We previously reported that Arsenal’s new boss Unai Emery is interested in signing the Sevilla midfielder in a bid to strengthen his squad which he inherited from Arsene Wenger last month.

AS claims the La Liga club is already looking for a replacement for the outbound star as they have identified Real Madrid Marcos Llorente as a replacement for the midfielder.

Emery is keen on a deal for the midfielder as doubts over Jack Wilshere and Aaron Ramsey’s futures at the club persist.

Arsenal have previously tried signing the France international in January but the Gunners’ head of recruitment Sven Mislintat decided against the move.

However, Emery who signed N’Zonzi during his time in charge of Sevilla and the Spaniard has convinced the club to revive their interest in the midfielder, according to the Mirror.

The Gunners have been told that they must activate N’Zonzi’s €40 million (£35m) release clause if they want to sign him this summer.

Sevilla’s new director of football Joaquin Caparros has insisted they will not entertain offers which are lower than the 29-year-old’s release clause.

This means a deal for N’Zonzi would take a huge chunk out of Emery’s £50m transfer kitty, which means he will be forced to try and sell some players to raise extra funds.
