Liverpool are set to rival Arsenal for the signature of Paris Saint Germain forward Julian Draxler, according to reports.
Draxler has been heavily linked with Arsenal in recent weeks, with reports claiming he is top of Wenger’s shortlist to replace Alexis Sanchez.
There have also been reports of a swap deal that will see Sanchez move to PSG while Draxler comes this way.
With the January transfer window fast approaching, Liverpool have now joined the race to sign Draxler.
According to Transfer Market Web via the Daily Star, Liverpool want Draxler as a replacement for Philippe Coutinho who is attracting from Barcelona.
The report says if Coutinho does leave, they are ready to spend big on Draxler.
Draxler’s future at PSG is under threat following the arrival of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe and the German may have to look elsewhere in search of regular playing time.
Arsenal and Liverpool could now battle to sign him, if he becomes available and Coutinho continues to push for a move away from the San Siro.
The Gunners’ interest in Draxler dates back to his time at Wolfsburg and we have continued to be linked with him over the years.
Wenger could make a move to sign him, if he is up for sale especially as Sanchez is refusing to sign a new deal here.
Facing competition from Liverpool for Draxler is normal because he is a very talented lad and many clubs will want to sign someone like him. However, our long standing interest in him should give us an edge over our rivals.
