Arsenal’s interest in signing Caglar Soyuncu has been driven by Arsenal’s new head of recruitment Sven Mislintat.

The 22-year-old has confirmed the Gunners are interested in signing him with Freiburg demanding £35million for the centre-half who has made just 55 appearances since joining the Bundesliga club in 2016.

Soyuncu reveals he wants the switch and said: “I hope I go to Arsenal.

“I really want to play in the Premier League, but everything depends on the team.

“I have a contract [at Freiburg] for three more years.”

According to Soyuncu’s agent, Mustafa Dogru, there are “concrete talks” between the player and the Gunners, and “all that remains is for a fee to be agreed.”

Caglar could be partnered at the heart of a new-look Arsenal back line by Borussia Dortmund’s Sokratis Papastathopoulos as Unai Emery prepares for his first season at the Emirate Stadium.

A host of clubs are chasing Soyuncu, including teams in his home nation.
