Arsenal are aiming to sign Rúnar Alex Rúnarsson from Ligue 1 side Dijon this weekend.
The Telegraph report that Arsenal are trying to complete the signing of Rúnar Alex Rúnarsson this weekend.
As we covered yesterday, there were conflicting reports over whether Rúnarsson held his medical earlier this week or not. However, The Telegraph claim he’ll undergo the tests today ahead of his £1.5m move from Dijon.
Arsenal began talks with the Ligue 1 club over the weekend, so it’s a fairly speedy turnaround for one of their transfers.
It’s worth noting not everyone is so sure he’ll make the West Ham game, however, with Mark Mann-Bryans suggesting it’s likely to come too soon.
The Telegraph report suggests Arsenal would also still welcome David Raya of Brentford. This fits with David Ornstein’s claim that the club are considering signing Raya and loaning him back. But it looks like a difficult one at over £10m.
Rúnarsson worked with Arsenal goalkeeping coach Inaki Cana during his time FC Nordsjælland. Back then, Cana described the goalkeeper as a ‘good person’ and an ‘excellent professional’ with an ‘innate talent’. You can read the full quotes here0.
But there are some doubts about the 25-year-old Iceland international. His statistics at Dijon aren’t impressive, and he never got very consistent game time. Hence why he’s available for as little as £1.5m.
So the goalkeeper has a point to prove, back with his old coach. Let’s hope that spurs him on to bigger things.
