Arsenal target Lucas Torreira, has been the subject of a £26.4m bid from Arsenal, according to Sky in Italy.
In May, Calciomercato reported in an exclusive that Everton were in touch over bringing the Sampdoria midfielder to Goodison Park in a £22 million deal. That would match his release clause, but the caveat was a battle with both Napoli and Arsenal for the 22-year-old.
It seems Arsenal have won the race in signing the Uruguay international who is currently with his national team in Russia.
The 22-year-old is widely tipped to become Unai Emery’s third signing at Emirates Stadium, with the Gunners already bringing in Stephan Lichtsteiner and Bernd Leno, but any move is unlikely until after Torreira’s involvement in Russia.
Sampdoria president Massimo Ferrero has previously claimed that a €30 million (£26m/$35m) deal is done for Torreira, who has featured twice for his country in the tournament, both times off the bench.
Arsenal have also agreed new contracts this year for midfielders Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Mohamed Elneny, who are again likely to be squad players, while the move for Torreira suggesting that Emery plans to use Xhaka and Ramsey slightly differently next season.
