Liverpool have been handed a massive boost ahead of a midweek clash against Chelsea as the Blues are likely to be without German defender Antonio Rudiger.

Liverpool will face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday and then in the Premier League on Saturday, by which time Pedro could be available.

However, Defender Rudiger went off during the second half of the Blues’ 0-0 draw at the London Stadium.

In his post-match press conference from the London Stadium, Maurizio Sarri had positive news on Rudiger.

The former Napoli boss said: “I want to speak with the doctor. I think nothing serious. Maybe three or four days.”

Judging by Sarri’s comments, Rudiger is unlikely to make the League Cup match, which he may not have been picked for anyway.

But he should be fit again for the crucial Premier League fixture.

This news gives an opportunity to the likes of Gary Cahill, who replaced Rudiger on Sunday, and Andreas Christensen to stake a claim in the side.

The two sides meet at Anfield on Wednesday night, in what will be the first of two meetings between the sides this week.
