Arsenal are set to lose out on top target Thomas Lemar, as Liverpool have reached an agreement with the Monaco winger, according to the Mirror.

The Gunners have been involved in a straight battle with Liverpool for the signature of the French international, but the Reds seem to have stolen the march on their rivals by reaching an agreement with the player.

However, they have baulked at the £100 million valuation of AS Monaco the French side is holding out for.

They have the funds after selling Phillipe Coutinho for £142 million to Barcelona, and might be tempted to use it to sign the player they feel would be a perfect replacement for the Brazilian plamaker.

Thomas Lemar had an amazing title winning season with Monaco last season and though he has scored just three times this season he is performing well enough to still attract interests of top clubs.

He came close to joining the Gunners last summer as a replacement for Alexis on deadline day as he was expected to join Man City, but the deal broke down and the Chilean stayed put, only to move to Manchester United instead recently.

The Gunners got Henrikh Mhkitaryan in that deal, but still need more options in attack and are closing in on signing Pierre-Emerick Aubamenyang from Dortmund.
