Trent Alexander-Arnold (knee) returned to training on Thursday and came through the session without “any issues”, according to Jurgen Klopp in Friday’s presser, but the Liverpool manager stressed that he would still need to make a judgement call on the England full-back given that he has been sidelined for a month.

James Milner could stay at right-back if Alexander-Arnold fails to prove his fitness, while Joel Matip looks set to continue at centre-half as Dejan Lovren (muscle) has joined Joe Gomez (leg) on the sidelines.

Jordan Henderson (muscle) and Georginio Wijnaldum (knee) are back in training after missing out on the draw with West Ham United and – if passed fit – could return to central midfield at the expense of the disappointing Adam Lallana and Naby Keita.

Klopp used a 4-3-3 at the London Stadium after having preferred a 4-2-3-1 in recent weeks and the dip in Xherdan Shaqiri’s form may convince him to stick with a three-man central midfield for the time being.

Daniel Sturridge and Divock Origi are alternative options in attack, though Klopp will surely field his strongest possible side given that the Reds are subsequently without a fixture for ten days and needing to bounce back to winning ways after successive 1-1 draws.
