Watford has joined Arsenal and Chelsea in the race to sign Udinese midfielder Jakub Jankto, according to reports.

Jankto is regarded as one of Serie A’s most promising midfielder and is already on the radar of most of Europe’s top clubs.

Chelsea and Arsenal have been consistently linked with the midfielder in recent weeks but could now face competition from Watford.

According to a report in the Daily Cannon, Watford are set to battle with the Blues and the Gunners for Jankto’s signature.

The Hornets interest has been aided by their relationship with Udinese. Watford owner Gino Pozzo is the son of Udinese owner Giampaolo Pozzo and both clubs have traded players between them in the past, so the reports of Watford’s interest doesn’t sound stupid.

AC Milan and Juventus are also believed to be interested in the midfielder.

Udinese are under no pressure whatsoever to sell Jankto and will have no problem turning down offers. The midfielder’s contract doesn’t expire until 2021, meaning they can decide to keep him as long as they want without any pressure.

To make things worse, reports of a £6m release clause on Jankto’s contract have come out to be false, meaning the ball is firmly in the Italian’s court. They can decide not to sell no matter what Arsenal offers.

The midfielder already has five goals to his name this season. He’s played a key role for Udinese so far, it’s hard to believe they would really want to sell in the new year.
