Chelsea are set to replace midfielder Danny Drinkwater with Arsenal transfer target Jean-Micheal Seri, according to the Metro.
Drinkwater completed a £30 million move to Chelsea on a five-year contract last summer to join up with his former teammate Ngolo Kante who had joined the Blues the year before.
However, barely a year later he is already being touted to leave the club after being unable to secure a spot in the club’s starting lineup as he fell behind Kante, Cesc Fabregas and Teimoue Bakayoko in the pecking order making just 12 Premier League appearances in his first season at the club.
The Blues are ready to cut their losses and are now looking to sign OGC Nice midfielder Seri, who has been on Arsenal radar recently.
The Gunners have been aiming to sign him as they look to strengthen their depleting central midfield position, but have been hesitating over his £35 million price tag.
Seri had also been tracked by Manchester United, but they just completed the signing of Fred from Shaktar Donetsk this week, effectively ending their interest in him.
This now puts Chelsea in the driving seat as they aim to strengthen their squad after a fifth place finish last season.
