Man City XI vs Chelsea: Guardiola to make THREE changes in Strong 4-3-3 formation

Vincent Kompany (muscle) and Benjamin Mendy (knee) remain out for Manchester City, who are set to contest their fourth Premier League match in the space of 12 days against Chelsea on Sunday.

The fact that the reigning champions were in action in midweek may play a part in Pep Guardiola’s team selection, with David Silva possibly at risk having played all but two minutes of City’s last three league fixtures.

Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling look poised to return to the starting XI after being handed a breather at Goodison Park, while Guardiola has repeatedly praised Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva over the last week so they too could make the cut.

Leroy Sane’s place is in some doubt after he was hauled off on 59 minutes of the 2-0 win over Everton on Wednesday, with Sterling possibly in line to take his place on the left flank (rather than play on the right).

Sergio Aguero is due a rest too, having started the last three league matches, though his reputation as a big-game player (a subject that was raised in Guardiola’s pre-match presser) may see him flogged one last time before being given a rest in the FA Cup fifth round.

Danilo, Fabian Delph and Oleksandr Zinchenko are the alternatives at left-back if Guardiola wants to move Aymeric Laporte back to centre-half, while there remains the possibility of the City manager using Fernandinho as a centre-back as he did against Arsenal in Gameweek 25.
