Arsenal have stepped up their pursuit for West Brom’s Jonny Evans after Virgil Van Dijk snubbed them to complete a move to Liverpool.
However, they are not alone, with Manchester City also coming after the player as they want a center back and have been linked to him for a while now.
The two clubs had been interested in Dutch international defender Virgil van Dijk, but Liverpool announced on Wednesday that they had completed his signing from Southampton. This is now likely to trigger a rush for Evans, both clubs will now be more desperate to complete a deal for him.
West Brom has indicated that they won’t do a deal for Evans on the cheap, and Manchester City’s interest is likely going to start a bidding war. The Manchester side won’t have an issue letting money out when it comes to defense, having already shelled out £52 million for Benjamin Mendy and £50 million for Kyle Walker.
The fact that the closest Arsenal has ever come to such fees was a £52 million deal for Alexandre Lacazette means that should a bidding war start, Evans is more likely to end up in sky blue shirts.
In my opinion Evans, though a good defender is not worth the huge fee that will be demanded if Arsenal pursues him, and it seems Wenger shares the same view, judging from the fact that he has chased him for two summers now without putting serious efforts to land him.
Arsenal fans, what do you think, is Evans worth the chase?
