Man United has been given the all clear in their pursuit for Napoli’s Faouzi Ghoulam, with the Italian side on the verge of signing his replacement, according to the Metro.
United have been tracking the left back for a while, and look set to get him with The Sun reporting that Napoli are close to agreeing a £27 million fee for Benfica defender Alex Grimaldo, which will see them more willing to do a business for their current left back Faouzi Ghoulam.
United are not alone in the race for Ghoulam, but they have been able to fight off competition from Man City, Chelsea and Liverpool to signing the left back.
Ghoulam signed a new deal in December which saw Liverpool pull out of the race after having a bid rejected in the summer.
The Algerian however won’t be available to play at the moment as he nurses a torn cruciate ligament injury he sustained last November.
Mourinho has relied on Ashley Young to fill in at left back for most of the season, with the Portuguese having lost faith in Luke Shaw who was signed in 2014 with the hope that he would become a regular in that position.
