Manchester United are understood to be set to swoop for Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil at the end of the season.

The German international who is into the last year of his contract at the Emirates has been linked with a host of top European clubs.

Manchester United who have previously been credited with an interest in the player are now understood to be keen to sign the player on Bosman when his contract runs out at the end of the current campaign.

Jose Mourinho’s interest in the player comes as no surprise, the Portuguese boss arguably got the best out of him in their time together at Real Madrid as they won one La Liga and one Copa Del Rey in their time with the Spanish heavyweights.

With Ozil open to the idea of reuniting with his former boss Mourinho at Old Trafford, the Red Devils are understood to have made plans to sign the German up.

The independent via Daily Cannon initially revealed that Manchester United will make a move to sign Arsenal’s Mesut ozil on a free once he is able to speak to other clubs from January.

Mesut despite being in the final year of his contract can only speak to foreign clubs in the New Year. United (and any other English clubs) have to wait until the end of the campaign to negotiate with the midfielder.

Quick to note the error, the Independent then swiftly gave a more accurate statement regarding the situation by stating that United will make their move to sign the Arsenal star on a free when his contract ends at the end of the season.

With no news to report regarding any progress on a contract extension for the 28-year-old, Wenger seems set to lose the player at the end of the current campaign.

If losing him for free isn’t bad enough, losing the World Cup winner to a direct rival would definitely be a bitter pill for Wenger to swallow.

The potential exit of the World Cup winner coupled with the nailed on exit of Alexis Sanchez next summer means Wenger is set to lose his star duo for nothing at the end of the current campaign.

Next summer is already shaping up to be a very crucial one for the gaffer as it would be difficult to adequately replace them in the same window.
