Man Utd XI vs Tottenham: 9 key changes made in Strong 4-3-3 formation

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer declared Paul Pogba (knock) fit to play in his press conference on Thursday, though there was no update on Alexis Sanchez after the Chilean suffered yet another hamstring strain in the FA Cup third round win over Reading.

Marcos Rojo has returned home to Argentina as he recuperates from his unspecified injury, with Solskjaer saying that a return date hasn’t been set for the defender.

Chris Smalling (foot) joined the United squad in training in Dubai and could feature, though Eric Bailly remains suspended.

Solskjaer made nine changes for that 2-0 win over the Royals, with only Phil Jones and Juan Mata keeping their places, and could revert to something close to the starting XI that defeated Newcastle in Gameweek 21.

Pogba, Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic are starting to establish themselves as the Norwegian’s first-choice midfield three and could all return, with the likes of Fred (who is awaiting the birth of his child), Andreas Pereira and Scott McTominay making way.

Marouane Fellaini has only featured for three minutes under Solskjaer in the Premier League so would also seem set for a place on the bench at best.

Jesse Lingard could oust Mata from the right flank, while Romelu Lukaku and Sanchez – if fit – are alternative options in attack.

Marcus Rashford looks secure of a start, though, with media reports on Thursday suggesting the in-form England forward has been told he is United’s “first-choice striker”.

Antonio Valencia and Diogo Dalot have both started a league game at right-back under Solskjaer but Ashley Young has featured more often, so the veteran England international may get the nod at Wembley.

Luke Shaw and Victor Lindelof have started all four league matches under their interim boss and appear settled in their respective positions, though Phil Jones looks at threat from Smalling’s return.
