Manchester City sign Jesus Navas

Manchester City have captured the signature of Spanish international Jesus Navas from Sevilla for a reported fee of £22.9 million. The 27 year old winger will join up with City after his participation in the Confederations Cup with Spain. Navas will be City’s first major signing of the new season and it is widely expected that former Malaga manager Manuel Pellegrini who is familiar to Navas, will be given the hot seat at the Etihad in the coming days.

Jesus Navas’ main assets are his pace, dribbling and a wonderful final ball into the box, which he combines to devastating effect. The winger broke through the Sevilla youth team and eventually went on to make 388 appearances for the Andalusian club. As a youngster he suffered from homesickness but he seems to have overcome this anxiety and is ready for a new challenge in his career. Manchester City will be hoping he can make an impact as they look to reclaim the Premier League title from rivals Manchester United.

Navas will certainly give City’s play a new dimension. Under Roberto Mancini, most of the attacking play was done through the center with the likes of David Silva and Samir Nasri the main creative source of attack. Now with the addition of Navas, City will most likely add width to their play. Navas a World Cup and European Championship winner has never tasted league success in Spain but he will be hoping to rectify that in England.

Following his transfer Navas was quoted saying, “I’m so happy to be joining Manchester City. It’s a good opportunity and I think both sides are happy. I took the decision to go to City four months ago. I still haven’t spoken to Manuel Pellegrini but he is a coach that I know. The Premier League is very fast and I’m very excited because Manchester City are putting a very good team together.

“I’m leaving Sevilla, which is a beautiful place and I’m going to a big club in England. I’m still not comfortable speaking English though. I’ll have to study now. The most important thing with the deal is that everyone wins. I leave Sevilla very grateful for everything and hope to achieve big things at City.”
