Manchester United have been told to explore the possibility of swapping Alexis Sanchez for Gareth Bale, with the Real Madrid winger already being linked with a move to Old Trafford.
Sanchez has struggled for form since he arrived at Old Trafford from Arsenal last January, scoring just five goals in 41 appearances in all competitions.
Jose Mourinho’s departure in December was seen as an opportunity for the Chilean to rejuvenate his United career. But Sanchez has started only five of United’s 18 games since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took temporary charge.
And it seems that the Norwegian, who is expected to be given the job permanently, does not see Sanchez in his future plans.
The Wales international has seen his future called into question during another season of form and fitness struggles in Spain.
Old Trafford has been mooted as a possible landing spot, with transfer talk intensifying on the back of Zinedine Zidane’s return to the Santiago Bernabeu dugout.
