According to journalist Duncan Castles, Raiola – Paul Pogba’s infamous agent Mino Raiola – has given Manchester United the chance Matthijs de Ligt, the 19-year-old Ajax centre-back.
United are said to be interested with De Ligt’s name ‘on Jose Mourinho’s transfer list’.
The 19-year-old is one of the most highly rated young defenders in Europe and he is believed to be a key target for Spanish champions Barcelona ahead of the summer.
But Juventus have maintained an interest in him, having given him a tour of the Allianz Stadium while playing there with Holland in the summer.
Mourinho is set to be handed cash to spend in January to bolster his misfiring squad.
“He’s on the scouts’ list and he’s on Mourinho’s list. But the problem for Mourinho is, he needs a defender who can go straight in and lead a defence that has been the biggest problem he’s had in the team for his three seasons at the club.
“For De Ligt, the expectation you would place on a 19-year-old leaving his country for the first time to take on that role is almost certainly a recipe for disaster.
“You have to be some player at 19 to move to a new country and become the leader of a defence like Manchester United’s, which is already weak.”
De Ligt is one of the most highly-rated young defenders in Europe who has no shortage of takers.

Castles explained: “De Ligt has been linked with most of the top English clubs, but I’m told he is closer to Barcelona than any of them.
“I think United have to be savvy about this. Why is Mino Raiolo offering De Ligt to Manchester United when he knows the player’s preference is to go to Spain?
“He knows if he moves to Barcelona it would probably be a far better place for De Ligt to develop as he wouldn’t be expected to go straight into the line-up as he’d be playing alongside someone like Gerard Pique or Samuel Umtiti, who have the experience and those leadership skills.
“He could develop his career in a less exposed manner.
“Why is he talking to Manchester United? Because if he gets an offer from Manchester United of a high salary he can take that to Barcelona and say: ‘right, this is the benchmark. If you want my player you’ve got to match that or better it.’ It’s a standard agent’s tactic.
“United have got to be aware that Raiola isn’t coming to them because he thinks thats the best option and the only option for his client at present.”
Tottenham and Liverpool are also said to be interested but Castles claims he would rather move to La Liga.
