Manchester United star Marcus Rashford was considering a move to Real Madrid before Jose Mourinho was sacked at Old Trafford.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has helped revive Rashford’s career since taking charge at the Theatre of Dreams and the 21-year-old has scored six times in nine appearances under the Norwegian.
That’s in stark contrast to the struggles he endured under Mourinho earlier in the season, when he scored just four times in 20 appearances under the Portuguese.
Mourinho favoured Romelu Lukaku in a central position and often pushed Rashford out onto the left-wing, in a role that he performed begrudgingly.
Despite his struggles, Rashford’s quality was still clear and La Liga giants Real Madrid were alerted to him after his sensational display for England in a 3-2 win against Spain.
Rashford has been at United since the age of eight but he considered leaving his boyhood club for Madrid in a significant indication of his unhappiness under Mourinho according to the Sun.
However, Solskjaer’s arrival has been a blessing for Rashford and the forward is now minded to stay at Old Trafford.
United have sensed Rashford’s new-found happiness under the Norwegian and are keen to capitalise on it by getting him to sign a new long-term deal at the club.
The Red Devils have privately confirmed that they’re in talks with Rashford over a new contract and he’s in line for a significant payrise on the £100,000-a-week he currently earns.
