Massive Ozil decision delights Emery

Arsenal manager Unai Emery believes that Mesut Ozil’s retirement from the national team will benefit the club, according to FourFourTwo.

The 30-year-old playmaker quit the German national team in July due to what he felt was racial discrimination against his Turkish heritage by the German Football Association.

He had been singled out as a scapegoat and the target for unfair criticism following his meeting with Turkish President Recap Tayyip Erdogan in May.

Emery believes that the absence of international football will afford Ozil more time on the Gunners training ground which will help him come to terms with his tactical demands more.

I can’t explain [my methods] to the players who are playing with the national teams,” he told the media.

It is not easy because they are playing two matches. When the players stop for these games maybe they can lose focus for us with training and improving on things. It could help him [Ozil] find our ideas more quickly.

Emery’s assertion seems to be true at the moment as Ozil has been in imperious form in recent weeks, and was instrumental as the Gunners secured 13th game unbeaten run in all competitions with a draw against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium at the weekend.
