Nemanja Matic says Manchester United are fully prepared to take on Sevilla on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils travel to Spain to face the La Liga side in the first-leg of their Champions League last-16 clash.

Sevilla have lost only one of their last 35 home games across all competitions having beaten Leicester City and drawn with Liverpool in Europe at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan Stadium inside the last 18 months.

But the Spanish outfit – who sit 23 points off of first-placed Barcelona in the league – finished second in the group stages behind Liverpool due to their poor away form, which included a 5-1 defeat at Spartak Moscow.

And in spite of their daunting home form, Matic insists Jose Mourinho’s men are well readied for the challenge of Vincenzo Montella’s side.

The Serbian midfielder said: “They are a very good team and especially at home, where they have great supporters who cheer them on for 90 minutes.

“We expect they are going to be aggressive from the start.

“But we know what our jobs are, we know what our qualities are and we are going to be ready.”

Manchester United topped Group A with five wins from six, their only blip a last-minute defeat away at Basel.

And the 29-year-old says he and his team-mates are delighted to be back in European action but will treat Sevilla with the respect they deserve.

“We are very happy to be playing in the Champions League again,” Matic told United’s club website.

“Sevilla are a great team and this is a great opportunity for us to compare with them. Everyone is very happy that we have a chance to play against them.

“We respect them a lot, we know they are a very good team and I’m sure on Wednesday it is going to be a good game for the supporters.”

Given Sevilla’s home form a draw might be considered a favourable result for United, but Matic has revealed their target is to take an advantage back to Old Trafford.

“It is important to get a good result away from home in the first-leg and not to concede a goal,” he added.

“It is going to be hard but we will do our best to get a good result, which is to win. We know what to expect.

“They have a couple of players who have already played in the Premier League and for sure that is going to be better for them. “But we also have our qualities, which we will use.”
