Maurizio Sarri has admitted why the combination of Eden Hazard and Olivier Giroud failed to thrive when his side played West Ham on Sunday afternoon to a goalless draw.

Sarri revealed the former Arsenal striker received little service to convert goals for his side.

Giroud struggled to make an impact with the French striker touching the ball just 24 times before he was replaced by Alvaro Morata in the 65th minute.

Hazard, meanwhile, has started the season in sublime form with five goals and two assists but the Belgian did not have many clear chances to add to his tally against a stubborn West Ham defence.

Asked if Hazard had more attacking intent against West Ham, Sarri replied: ‘Not in the first half. Better in the second half. It was very difficult to play inside.

‘They were cutting off very well every kind of pass for Giroud.

‘We needed two wingers, I think.

‘Hazard did very well in the last 25 minutes, more on the right than the left, but it was really very difficult today for the striker and it was very difficult for the two wingers.’

Chelsea 100 percent record so far this season under a new management has been cut down to 71 percent following a stalemate at the London Stadium.

The Blues will play Liverpool midweek the only Premier League side with a 100 percent record this season.
