Arsenal target Hannibal Mejbri has passed a medical at Manchester United after a £9m deal was agreed with Monaco.
The Gunners have had a huge week in the transfer market after snapping up Nicolas Pepe for a club-record £72m deal.
However, they are set to be sent crashing back down to earth after losing out to United in one transfer pursuit.
The Gunners had made an offer to Monaco defender Mejbri but the youngster has turned them down.
Instead, the 16-year-old has opted to accept Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s offer but there is plenty of interest in the teenager around the globe.
Mejbri has been at loggerheads with Monaco for over a year now and has been locked in talks with the Red Devils for eight months.
The player’s family claim that the Ligue 1 side have gone back on promises made to him, which at one point nearly threatened to be taken to court.
Monaco paid £1m for the wonderkid when he was 14 but FootMercato report that he has passed a medical at Old Trafford ahead of a £9m move.
The Gunners made a late bid and were prepared to rival United’s offer, report L’Equipe.
But the midfielder has his heart set on the Red Devils – where he will join their Under-18 team.
He will become the third signing of the summer for Solskjaer’s side after Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James.
His arrival will be a bit of a surprise for the fans, who have been expecting the arrival of three other signings.
Bruno Fernandes, Harry Maguire and Paulo Dybala are all strongly linked with a move to Manchester.
But the club are running into problems – with Maguire proving particularly difficult.
The Englishman is keen to leave but Leicester are demanding £90m for the centre-back.
