Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny is set to leave Arsenal and join French Ligue 1 side Bordeaux.

The 26-year old, who joined the Gunners from Basel in January 2016, has found himself pushed down the pecking order at the Emirates since the arrival of Unai Emery at the club, and made just five Premier League starts last season, with Lucas Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi usually preferred in central midfield ahead of him.

He has been linked away with a move from North London before – Crystal Palace, Fulham and Leicester City were all rumoured to be interested in him last summer, whilst Roma made enquiries about the availability of the Egyptian vice-captain in January.

At that stage his £55,000 a week wages were thought to be a stumbling block, and it now looks like he will have to take a pay cut in order to join the Ligue 1 side.

Arsenal are likely to get back the £7 million that they paid Basel for him more than three years ago.
