Arsenal have been linked with a move for in form Burnley defender James Tarkowski in January.
Reports suggest that Arsenal alongside Man City and Man Utd are chasing the defender to increase their home-grown quota. This might be true for Manchester City but for Arsenal it’s different.
Arsenal already have many players in their squad that qualify for the home grown rule, and their interest is more drawn from the fact that Per Mertesacker is retiring at the end of the season.
Koscielny is also getting old and his Achilles problem is becoming increasingly frequent, added to the fact that Gabriel wasn’t replaced after he left in the summer.
Tarkowski on his part has formed a partnership with Ben Mee in a defence that has conceded the joint fewest goals in the league in a high flying Burnley side this season.
His individual performances though should be monitored, with no player conceding more penalties than him this season, including the one Arsenal scored in their 1-0 win back in November.
He is however not alone on Arsenal’s wishlist with Mainz’s Abou Diallo, Wolfsburg’s Ohis Felix Uduokhai also being looked at.
