Unai Emery has identified Getafe star Djene as a top target ahead of the summer transfer window and believes he can help solve Arsenal’s defensive woes, according to reports.
The Gunners have conceded 49 goals in the Premier League this season – more than Wolves, Leicester City, Everton, Crystal Palace and Newcastle United.
Emery privately accepts he needs to bolster his defensive options this summer, with Shkodran Mustafi failing to perform throughout the season and linked with a departure.
Marca say Togo international Djene has been identified as the player to solve Arsenal’s defensive problems ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.
The 27-year-old has enjoyed a superb season for Getafe, with his performances helping the club climb to fourth in the La Liga table, just ten points behind Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Djene is now rated as one of the most assured defenders in Spain and has been linked with a number of clubs after his impressive run of performances.
Arsenal are looking at a number of defenders ahead of the summer transfer window but Marca say Djene, who has a buy-out clause of £30million, is right at the top of the Gunners’ list.
It is claimed Emery has personally scouted Djene this season and has been impressed enough to advise Arsenal to make a move.
Earlier in the season, the Getafe president confirmed they had received offers from Spanish and foreign clubs for Djene last summer.
Angel Torres told Cadena Cope: ‘He wishes to remain playing in La Liga, and we have promised his agent that if a suitable offer comes in from a Spanish club, we will negotiate.
‘He has a release clause of €35m, but we could be open to selling him for slightly less.’
