Arsenal are keen on Ajax left back Nicolas Tagliafico as a long-term replacement for aging Nacho Monreal, according to the Daily Cannon.

Arsenal have been on an impressive run of form this season as they are currently on an 13-game unbeaten run, with their draw coming in their last two outing against Crystal Palace and Liverpool.

However, they have notably had to play four different players at left back this season, with Granit Xhaka becoming the latest player to fill in that position.

Nacho Monreal has been absent a couple of times with fitness issues, while second choice left back Sead Kolasinac has been struggling with a number of injuries this season limiting him to just one appearance so far.

Monreal who turns 33 next year has been consistently Arsenal’s first choice at left back for a couple of years and has been impressive this season with a goal and three assists in just 9 appearances this season, however his age and growing fitness problems have moved the Gunners to begin the search for his replacement.

They are now monitoring Ajax left back Tagliafico as a potential long-term replacement for the Spaniard.

Tagliafico joined Ajax from Independiente in January and has scored twice while assisting twice in 15 appearances so far this season.

He featured for the Argentine national team during the World Cup in Russia and is believed to possess ball interception abilities, good ball retention and good passing skills.

It remains to be seen if and when Arsenal will sign the 26-year-old Argentine international.
