Arsene Wenger has taken a slight dig at “no value” Alexis Sanchez as he showered praises on his new signing Henrikh Mhkitaryan, describing him as a very complete player after he completed a switch from Manchester United to Arsenal, according to the Independent.

The Armenian joined the Gunners recently as part of a straight swap deal which saw Alexis Sanchez move the other way. He signed a three-and-a-half-year deal and is expected to replace the Chilean.

Speaking to the press after the transfer was completed, Wenger said: “Henrikh is a very complete player. He creates chances, he defends well, he can absorb distances and he’s very committed as well.

“I must say he’s a player who has all the attributes.

He went ahead to suggest (via the Daily Star) that the Gunners got a better deal in the swap;

We were in a position where we lose a player who has no value on the market, against a player who has a value on the market because he has a contract with us now.

“We lose a world-class player and we gain a world-class player. How efficient will that be? That will be down to the performances of both players.

“Mkhitaryan has the qualities to integrate into our game and that is based a lot on movement and technical quality.

“I think he has the attributes and a good team attitude as well and I’m confident that it will work.”

The player has quickly endeared himself with the fans off the pitch first replying “Thank you my friend” to a fan who welcomed him to the club, the further revealing that he always dreamed of playing for Arsenal.

I always loved the way that Arsenal played and the way that Arsene Wenger has managed the team,” he said.

“I’m very happy that we could finish this deal and I’m very happy to be here. It’s a dream come true because I’ve always dreamed of playing for Arsenal. Now that I’m here, I’ll do my best for this club to create history.”

He will now have to endear himself to the fans on the pitch when he makes his debut.
