Report suggest Maurizio Sarri is due in London today to finalise his move to Chelsea this summer after reports claiming Antonio Conte has been shown the exit door.
Conte, who had refused to walk away from Chelsea unless the final year of his contract was paid in full, has been sacked, the Express reports
His future has been in the air despite winning the FA Cup last season but failed to qualify the team for the Champions League.
Chelsea are expected to announce Sarri’s appointment on a two-year contract imminently he will be joined with the signing of Italy international midfielder Jorginho for a combined fee of €65 million (£57.5m).
It is understood Conte said his farewells to his players on Thursday lunchtime after training.
Chelsea finally issued a statement confirming his departure on Friday morning.
“During Antonio’s time at the club, we won our sixth league title and eighth FA Cup,” it said. “In the title-winning season, the club set a then-record 30 wins in a 38-game Premier League season, as well as a club-record 13 consecutive league victories. We wish Antonio every success in his future career.”
Relations between Conte and the Chelsea hierarchy had always been difficult but deteriorated markedly over a difficult second season with regular disagreements over transfer policy.
It is understood Wilian, David Luiz and Eden Hazard might opt against signing a new long-term contract should Conte remained at the helm.
