Former Arsenal forward Paul Merson has conceded that he ‘got it wrong’ when previewing Saturday’s Premier League clash between the Gunners and Liverpool.
Merson claimed that Liverpool ‘would win by three clear goals’ at the Emirates Stadium, with his former club being ‘ripped to shreds’ in the English capital.
“If they don’t lose by more than three goals next week, I’ll be shocked.
They’re not in the same class as this Liverpool team.
If Liverpool turn up and they fancy it, they will rip Arsenal to absolute shreds.
They’re just waiting to get found out! They’re like a boxer with a dodgy chin who hasn’t been hit yet, as soon as he gets hit he’s just going to spark.”
The former Gunners star held his hands up and said he was delighted to see Unai Emery’s team take the game to Liverpool.
Merson tweeted: “Fair play to @Arsenal, I got that wrong yesterday and I’m sooo glad they made me eat my words.
“Clear they are improving every week #holdmyhandsup I never want Arsenal to do badly!
“I just give my honest opinion about everyone at the time I’m asked.”
Alexandre Lacazette equalised with a fine finish late on at the Emirates to earn his side a draw after James Milner had given the visitors the lead.
