Arsenal are getting closer to announcing Lille forward Nicolas Pepe as their newest signings with reports stating that he is set to have a medical at the club in coming days.
It is understood that Pepe is expected to be in London any moment from now as a transfer fee was agreed with Lille last week. Arsenal are believed to have stumped up a club record fee of £72 million plus add-ons.
Pepe had earlier been thought to be closing in on a move to Italian club Napoli after Lille president revealed that he had agreed a deal with the Naples outfit. However Arsenal made a late bid that matched Lille’s evaluation and are reportedly the preferred outfit for the Ivorian.
Pepe is regarded as one of the top forwards in France with his explosive pace and goalscoring abilities a key aspect of his game. He led Lille to the second place last season scoring 22 goals and providing 11 assists in the Ligue 1.
He would be expected to join current attacking options of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazzete at the Emirates stadium. From the look of things it is only a matter of days before the move is made official.
