Real Madrid vs Paris Saint-Germain preview: Los Blancos plan cold revenge on high-flying group leaders

The last time Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain faced off against each other, the fireworks carved apart Los Blancos in a humiliating affair at the Parc des Princes.

Two sides at the edge of each other’s necks with a recently formed rivalry, a 3-0 win for PSG outlined everything good Thomas Tuchel has done to improve them since Unai Emery’s departure.

Madrid, however, looked nothing like the side which won three back-to-back UEFA Champions League titles under Zinedine Zidane. The Frenchman thrashed his side for lacking intensity and admitted the French side were better on all departments.

But since then, times have changed for the Spanish giants. They’ve won their last six games consecutively in dominant fashion, and the current football betting odds have improved for the Madrid team. Eden Hazard’s working his magic flourishing in the left-wing role, while Rodrygo’s come up the surprise package as a firecracker on the right.

Zidane sparked up a fire among the two sides by stating that PSG’s Kylian Mbappe’s dream is to play for Real Madrid, something which very much annoyed PSG’s Sporting Director Leonardo.

Thankfully for the visitors, both Mbappe and Neymar are both fit for the big clash. They missed the opener, but now alongside the in-form Mauro Icardi, will add even more iron to terrorize Los Blancos’ defence in a dramatic encounter between these two strongly weaponized heavyweights.

Real Madrid Predicted XI:

Courtois, Carvajal, Varane, Ramos, Marcelo, Casemiro, Kroos, Modric, Rodrygo, Benzema, Hazard

Paris Saint-Germain Predicted XI:

Navas, Meunier, Silva, Kimpembe, Bernat, Marquinhos, Gueye, Di Maria, Mbappe, Icardi, Neymar

Key Clashes.

Mauro Icardi vs Raphael Varane

After a controversial exit from Inter Milan, Mauro Icardi’s taken to PSG like butter to bread. The clinical striker is suiting their attacking system perfectly, often finding himself in all the right places to score emphatically.

He’s scored 5 goals in his last five appearances, soaring high on confidence. But Raphael Varane aims to bring that crashing down. The Frenchman’s found his composed ability back recently, only conceding once in his last six appearances in club colours.

With the emphatic Varane a terrific neutralizer with his man-marking and Icardi an unpredictable poacher, this battle could be a high-intense one.

Luka Modric vs Idrissa Gueye

After a spell with injury-trouble, Luka Modric finally returned to his very best with a brace and assist against Real Sociedad at the weekend. The Croatian danced past his midfielders, put in beautiful creative passes and uplifted Los Blancos midfield by pulling the strings beautifully.

But things won’t be as easy on Wednesday. A hounding Idrissa Gueye is having a stellar season with PSG, creating and scoring goals occasionally but making life difficult for opposition midfielders all the time!

The aggressive midfielder’s relentless pressing, tackling and clever movement make him difficult to predict. Modric not only needs to outwit the former Everton man going forward but be concentrated defensively to keep him quiet.
