Chelsea are having second thoughts about pursuing Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey, because of the impressive form of Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
The Welshman is now certain to leave the Emirates Stadium following the expiration of his contract in the summer, but the Daily Star has learned that the midfielder could be found in surplus in Maurizio Sarri’s side considering the performance of Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek this season.
The Welshman’s contract at the Emirates Stadium is due to expire at the end of the season and will not be renewed , leading to him leaving the Gunners after 11 years with the club.
The Blues had been heavily linked with a move for the midfielder along with Manchester United and Liverpool but, as it stands, it is thought that Sarri has passed up the chance to add the 56-times capped Wales international to his ranks.
But the Daily Star say Chelsea chiefs are questioning the need to sign another midfielder with England pair Barkley and Loftus-Cheek continuing to impress.
Barkley endured a difficult debut season at Stamford Bridge following his emotional move from boyhood club Everton.
But the 24-year-old has now established himself as a genuine option to Maurizio Sarri, scoring three goals in his last three appearances for the Blues.
Loftus-Cheek, meanwhile, scored a hat-trick in the Europa League last month and opened his Premier League account in Sunday’s thrashing against Burnley.
Chelsea also have N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, Cesc Fabregas and Real Madrid loanee Mateo Kovacic in their ranks.
While Ramsey could join the club on a free transfer, he would be entitled to a significant signing-on fee and steep wages
