Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Real Madrid goalkeeper Keylor Navas as a replacement for Petr Cech.
The Costa Rican international is currently the first choice at the Bernabeu but the Spainish giants are understood to be keen on recruiting a younger and more exciting goalie, which would see Navas leave the club.
Reports in Italy are claiming that the Gunners are monitoring Navas’ situation. According to Calciomercato via the Daily Cannon, Arsenal are following the player closely and are waiting around the corner to make a move.
The Gunners currently look well stocked in the goalkeeping department with Ospina a capable deputy to current custodian of the gloves Petr Cech.
A closer look at the situation however explains Wenger’s interest in Navas.
Cech is already on the wrong side of 35, Wojciech Szczesny who would have been an able replacement having matured during his loan spells at Roma was sold to Juventus last summer while David Ospina is likely to be sold in the next as he continues to agitate for a move away from the Emirates in search of more regular football.
Navas is no doubt a top class goalkeeper having played a prominent role in Madrid’s recent success under Zidane, his arrival at the Emirates will see the Gunners land a pair of capable hands, the problem however is that he is on the wrong side of thirty.
Much like Madrid are looking to do next summer and City already did last summer, a young vibrant goalkeeper seems a more reasonable choice in the modern game and Arsenal should also be looking in that direction.
