Arsenal have been dealt a blow on the transfer front with Spanish heavyweights Barcelona reportedly not open to idea to selling Gunners target Alex Vidal.

The attack minded full back has been previously linked with a move to the Emirates as Wenger is understood to be looking at options that would provide more depth on the right side of the defence.

With Hector Bellerin currently the only natural right sided defender in the senior squad, Wenger who has been monitoring the Vidal’s situation at the Camp Nou has previously been reported with interest in bringing in added competition for Bellerin.

Despite flourishing for Sevilla prior to his big move, the Spaniard has struggled to replicate such outstanding displays for Barcelona since signing in the summer of 2015.

A serious leg injury last season looked likely to end his Barcelona career but new Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde wanted to keep hold of the players he inherited at the club to properly assess them.

Recent reports have now revealed that Vidal who is now fully recovered from the injury is now in favour under the new boss and he has decided that he will not be sold.

According to Calciomercato via TalkSPORT, Barcelona have now decided to keep hold of the Spaniard. Valverde considers him an important member of the squad despite the arrival of Nelson Semedo in the summer window.

Vidal would have been a good addition to the squad, he would have seamlessly slotted into the Gunners passing game while his attacking ability would have made him an ideal fit for the wing back role.

Wenger is now faced with the unfortunate decision of moving on to other targets as the Gunners are currently one Bellerin injury away from a potential problem.
