Real Madrid will receive a compensation fee if Mesut Ozil joins Barcelona, according to reports
The Catalan giants have been linked with the midfielder in recent months and it’s being claimed that they are seriously keeping an eye on his situation at Arsenal.
Spanish outlet Don Balon via the Daily Cannon are claiming two clauses were included in Ozil’s contract at the time he was joining from Real Madrid.
The first of the two clauses is that Madrid will be due a compesation clause if Ozil joins Barcelona. The second is that Real only have to match any offer from Barcelona and the player will join them instead.
If true, it means these clauses will only be effective in January as Ozil’s contract expires at the end of the season.
The midfielder hasn’t shown any interest in extending his contract and there are a host of clubs already lining up to open pre-contract talks with him in Janaury.
I don’t think Arsenal are even considering selling the midfielder, so talks of Madrid getting a compensation fee is premature at the moment.
It’s likely Barcelona would look to sign Ozil on a free transfer rather than trying to sign him in January when it will be so complicated.
